Red Wine by Dierberg from Santa Maria Valley, California. 2014 was a terrific vintage for the eponymous Dierberg Vineyard Pinot Noir. The balance to strike from this vineyard seems to be how to bring enough fruit flavor through ripening but not going so far as to broaden the texture such that a sense of freshness is lost (as Dierberg believes an early, warm vintage is at risk of doing). Sensible harvest timing along with judicious stem inclusion (25% on average) and less new oak assist in striking that balance of increasing supple qualities to support a vineyard that wants to produce broader textures with evoking the dark cherry fruit qualities the vineyard produces at its best. 2014 did this exceptionally well.
